Wave Wind Breaks Ground on Sweetwater Lay Down Yard
February 23, 2009
Wave Wind is pleased to announce that we have broken ground on a new lay down yard in Sweetwater, Texas. This full-service, 60-acre site near one of the most important strategic transportation hubs in North America will provide wind project developers a safe location to store wind turbine components.
According to Tim Laughlin, President of Wave Wind, lay down yards are an increasingly important feature of the wind energy supply chain. Key requirements include:
- Proximity to shipping ports, rail spurs, wind farm clusters, and grade-A highway networks.
- Equipment and expertise to offload and load wind turbine components safely and efficiently.
- Ample room to allow for the smart organization and placement of blades and nacelles.
- 24-hour security.
"Once completed, Wave Wind's Sweetwater lay down yard will meet each of these requirements," Laughlin explains. "As a result, it will immediately become an integral part of our material handling services, helping us to better ensure the safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery of wind turbine components."
